An acoustic panel is only as effective as what covers it. It's a simple principle, but one that's easy to overlook when textile selection is treated as primarily a design decision.


The substrate does the work of absorbing sound. But if the textile wrapped around it reflects rather than transmits, sound never reaches the substrate in the first place. The panel underperforms, and the space pays the price.

Reflection vs. transparency

When sound waves hit a surface, one of two things happens. Either they bounce back, or they pass through to the absorptive layer beneath. With acoustic textiles, the goal is always the latter. A textile that is acoustically transparent allows sound to travel through its structure and into the substrate, where it can be absorbed.
