What are CLEAN IMPACT TEXTILES® and why should they matter to you?

Over the past decade, the textile industry has been striving to transform its traditional linear economy—namely the "take, make, dispose" model—which is clearly unsustainable due to its impact on our waterways, soils, energy resources, and atmosphere.

Innovative Technologies

The growing consumer preference for sustainable products that contribute to combating climate change is driving a major shift in how some textile companies restructure their investments in research and development (R&D) and adapt their manufacturing processes to provide more environmentally friendly textiles.

The first innovation is CLEAN IMPACT TEXTILES® biodegradable technology*, launched in 2019. It is made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester. These fabrics biodegrade at a rate comparable to natural fibers (according to ASTM D5511 biodegradability standards), in less than four years*.

The second innovation, called CLEAN IMPACT TEXTILES® Ocean Waste, is made from post-consumer recycled polyester derived from marine waste recovered through the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE. This organization works with fishermen, NGOs, foundations, cleanup initiatives, waste management companies, and recycling industries to recover all kinds of plastic waste from our oceans and supply manufacturers like Duvaltex with recycled marine plastic for sustainable textile innovations.

Bi-Circular Economy

Both technologies are also fully recyclable, meaning that Duvaltex is taking a significant step forward in implementing a cutting-edge bi-circular economy while significantly reducing commercial textile waste and its impact.

Even more impressive, these two technologies deliver the same performance, design positioning, and acoustic transparency as other commercial textiles. Their cost is also comparable to less eco-friendly products. CLEAN IMPACT TEXTILES® meets or exceeds ACT (Association for Contract Textiles) standards for commercial upholstery without sacrificing workability, patterns, or colors.

Supporting LEED and WELL Certifications

CLEAN IMPACT TEXTILES® is a key differentiator when specifying commercial projects requiring LEED or WELL certifications. It also helps create an attractive design story when working with clients to meet their needs.

There’s no doubt that further innovations are on the horizon for Duvaltex’s CLEAN IMPACT TEXTILES® technologies. Stay tuned for what’s next!

*The rate and extent of biodegradation into elements found in nature is 91% over 1,278 days, as per ASTM D5511 (Anaerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials Under High Solids Anaerobic Digestion Conditions). The test was performed with the same polyester (PET) compound and biocatalyst additive. No evidence of further degradation.
